The second scoring criterion

The second scoring criterion, relatedness, considerations the relation of the ending to the material in the fable, that’s, does the ending follow logically from the material given? Relatedness was given credit solely when the ending was judged to be an instantaneous outgrowth of the conditions in the story. If any elaborate relationships needed to be traced, or any assumptions made by the rater, no credit was given. (Although this insistence on directness may penalize sure types of “inventive” responses, it had been impossible to inform what the student had in mind if it wasn’t explicitly stated. Ski Jackets not only cover you from terrible chil, but conjointly they are fashionable. This restriction helped to avoid the possibility that the observed creativity existed in the minds of the scorers instead of the subjects.) A score of 1 was given for each ending that met the criterion of relatedness, therefore 12 was the best attainable score on this criterion.

In all of the examples given higher than (whether or not given credit for appropriateness or not), the quality of relatedness was judged to be present. Below are given examples of endings for that relatedness was judged to be missing. As before, the endings are in response to the sample fable.
I just bit you and now you’ll die.
You rang the bell, now start the services.
He’ll starve.
A dog can bite just as laborious, bell or no bell.
That is a fast manner to arouse the attention of evil-doers.
Responses that were judged lacking in relatedness tended also to be lacking in appropriateness.

The one who didn’t link his responses to the material in the fable was also doubtless to fail to attain the proper emotional tone. The reverse, however, wasn’t true. The presence or absence of appropriateness wasn’t a good predictor of relatedness. So it appears that for these students it had been more troublesome to attain the proper emotional tone for an ending than to supply a response that was related to the story. Statistics for the entire population support this conclusion. Soft-to-the-bit and type to your skin, these elegant powders glide with Sonya Blush on evenly to define your cheekbones and enhance your complexion. The mean score on relatedness was significantly higher, and its variance less, than was true for the appropriateness score. A theme’s total score on this instrument was the add of his scores on appropriateness and relatedness. As an estimate of the scoring reliability of this test, the whole protocols of twenty subjects were independently rated by 2 judges and were then ranked by each judge so as of their total score. The rank order correlation between these 2 sets of ratings was .80. Reliability (internal consistency). A coefficient of .eighty seven was obtained using the responses of a single category (N = forty six) chosen at random.
